We Make Sawdust Challenge - Round 2

Saburrtooth and I are back for Round 2 of the We Make Sawdust Challenge!

What is the “We Make Sawdust” Challenge? It is:

The participants that were selected were:

After participants are selected they get sent out a SWAG package for the challenge. Included in it are the carving burrs and a ton of other AWESOME stuff. This time the box was full of goodies from some of my friends. Pony Jorgenson included a classic hand screw clamp, which is great for clamping and holding pieces when carving. Titebond send some glue and a glue brush, because you can never have too many. KEEN Utility gave each of them a pair of new work boots! Plus, Saburrtooth and I included stickers, t-shirts, coffee mugs and pencils… so everybody was definitely prepared.

The SWAG just keeps getting better and better!

Oh and the challenge was…. build/carve “SOMETHING YOU CAN SIT ON”.

And let me tell you this challenge was full with some AWESOME talent! And each participant created a piece they should definitely be proud of.

Since I can’t win and was just carving along for fun, let me share my build with you first.

Here is Karla’s build. She made a bench out of mostly oak plywood and added texture all over it using Saburrtooth’s 7/8” sphere burr in coarse grit. Then she made a bowl out of maple burl using Saburrtooth’s carving disc in coarse grit. She finessed the inlay using their flame burr in coarse grit as well. Then she painted the main section of the bench black, added some legs and now has an AWESOME bench for her entry way that she named Infinity! You can find more of her work at Black Poppy Woodworks.

Here is Hadeel’s build. She took her favorite wood, walnut, and a few others and made a stool some draping texture. She has such a cool look from each side of the piece. You can find more of her work at Four Rivers Studios.

Here is Andy’s build. He made a chair out of mostly an oak stump. He started with his chainsaw and cut away a section for the seat and then proceeded to carve Jack Skellington… bowtie and all into the chair or throne might be more appropriate. You can find more of his work at Hall’s Carvings.

Once all the builds were complete it was up to YOU to vote on your favorite. And that favorite was going to walk away with $300 in Saburrtooth cash and bragging rights!

Thank you to Saburrtooth and all the participants for an AWESOME time! Without further ado, the winner of the We Make Sawdust Challenge Round 2 is… haha… not so fast, you have to watch video below to find out!
