I am the maker behind The Awesome Orange. I am wife to my handsome husband Stephen, fur mama to #AwesomeOscar, and Auntie to 5 awesome kiddos. Generally you can find me with a messy top knot, no make-up on and making awesome furniture..... wanna know more?
Tired of the 9-5 and working 60 hours a week for someone else, I took some time off. And during that time I discovered a desire to nest. Having only really lived in investment properties my adult live, I never really got to put my "Sadie Touch" on a house to make it my home. But since I didn't have a job I knew I couldn't just go out and buy everything that I wanted. I had a friend who refinished furniture and that seemed cool, but not all the used furniture out there was my style. I had made a couple of things in the past. In fact that box I am sitting on in the pic above was my first build. I built it for my backyard patio to hide charcoal and pillows when it rained. It was made from an old sign of a company where I worked for one of my first jobs. I added the box, castors, some hardware and Voila, my first build! I had another friend who worked at a cabinet shop and he was going to build a dining room table from some barn wood. I was intrigued, so I followed him to the store and ended up buying wood for what would be my first dining room table.
As you can see, in just a couple of years that table has already changed along with some of my style. Started with pipe legs for a more industrial look to some turned legs for a more farmhouse look. The chairs, the rug, the centerpiece... all changed. I would love to change more about the last picture, but you get the point. I am finding my style!!! I absolutely love my table. The top is made from the old PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) factory flooring! How cool is that? The turned legs I found on a craigslist table and painted them white. I love that the table tells and story, is pretty to look at, and not intimidating to touch. Any scuffs just add to the character.
So in discovering how this table made me feel and how my house is slowly turning into a home, a place where I love to be and love to have people over at, I realized everyone should have this feeling. So I decided I would make AWESOME furniture for everyone!
Everybody Deserves Awesome!
I didn't magically just know how to build and make awesome furniture... it has been a journey! And it is still a journey that I am on. Discovering my style, new techniques, new woods, new tools, etc. And that is why I wanted to start blogging about it, so I could share my experiences with others to inspire them to go out and try something new. So stayed tuned for more of my building adventures where I will share with you what I am making and some tips and tricks along the way.
