Husky’s “Silent” Air Compressor | Tool Review
A silent air compressor? What’s the catch? That is what I wanted to find out, so when as part of The Home Depot’s ProSpective Program I was able to review this tool… I jumped at the opportunity. Air compressor pun intended… haha. But not only for that Oscar, my fur baby, is deathly afraid of my current air compressor. He hates it so much that he even know what it looks like now and if it is out and turned off he still runs away. So let’s see what this compressor is all about.

Now that we got the technical stuff out of the way, let’s get down to what you really came here for. I am going to start with overall thoughts on presentation and general feel, then who I think this tool would be good for or what types of jobs, and then sound - is it really silent?
Presentation/Feel:
Right out of the box I thought it looked like a really well built piece of equipment and it came completely assembled. It was solid and heavy duty feeling, but that also made it heavy (71lbs). But to make up for its heaviness it does have a built in cart with two big wheels and a telescoping handle that makes it easy to move around.
The paint and finish look good. I like that the regulator knob is big and easy to see, but to be honest it took me a minute to find the on/off switch.
Usage/User:
What type/size of air compressor you get is greatly going to depend on what tools you are going to use with it, so be sure to make sure all your tools fit within the ratings of this compressor. But overall I think this air compressor would be great for general household DIY purposes up to the general contractor/carpenter. It will run all your trim nailers and up to a framing nailer, so it will work for everything I need it for.
It also has two air hose outs with Quick Couplers. That means that two people or tools can be working at once. But I really like that to attach your hose with the Quick Couplers you just have to push it in. No more trying to pull one part out and push the other in… a super nice feature to me.
And since this compressor is on wheels it also makes it great for wheeling around job sites or to your car to air up your tires. You don’t need to lug a heavy air compressor around or have 3 miles of hose to get to your car anymore… hooray!
Sound:
Okay so the term “Silent” is just a marketing term… it’s not actually silent. But Husky does claim that it is 80% quieter and you guys they AREN’T LYING. THIS THING IS QUIET!!! The first time I turned it on I had to double check everything was on and that I did it right! It is rated for a decibel rating of 65 dBA. A normal decibel level is 50-65. Sounds within that range aren’t harmful to the ear even if you are regularly exposed to them. You can actually talk when it is running. And if I have my earplugs in I hardly notice when this thing turns on…. how AWESOME is that. I haven’t been brave enough to test it out around Oscar, but maybe in due time.
So how to they make it so quiet? It does have a muffler on it, some rubber mounts, two compressors, two tanks… but as far as the science I’m not sure. I just know that I would try and avoid using tools that involved my old compressor because it was such a pain to lug around (no wheels) and it was so loud. But know that I have this one, I am sure I will be rethinking that.
Pros:
It is Quiet! - My #1 reason for purchasing this compressor
Mobile - Great for moving around job sites or filing up car tires.
Quick Connect - Easily attach hoses with one hand.
Cons:
On/Off Button in weird location - okay not really a con once you know where it is, but I had to come up with something.
It is heavy (about 71lbs) - this will only matter is you are having to move it from job site to job site and load on unload it from a truck. But if you use it in your shop like me, it won’t make a difference because there is no need to pick it up.
Well, I hope this review helped you decide if this tool was right for you. I only have done a couple of tool reviews now, so if there is something that you would like to see if future reviews please that in the comments below.
And if you like this air compressor, but it just isn’t the right size for you Husky does have a 1 Gal. and a 20 Gal. model available with the same AWESOME silent (80% quieter) feature! Compare them here.
Thank you so much for reading… remember build LOUD, build WILD and have an AWESOME day!
