And what really makes this such an easy and super sturdy project is that I am using Simpson Strong-Tie APRTR Ridge Tie Rail Connectors. These are the same ones I used to make my DIY Privacy Fence.
You can get them in the traditional galvanized finish or a decorative powder coated black finish like I did.
Today I am sharing how I made some AWESOME counter height chairs or bar stools! These are for a client and match a dining room table and benches I made for her. I can’t wait to see the complete set altogether.
This design is a simple way to make chairs… the joinery is mostly butt joints and with countersunk screws! So this is a great project if this is your first time making chairs… or stools… not sure what to call them!
Howdy guys… today I have a really special build to share. I built Awesome Oscar, my fur baby, a dog house! And not just any dog house… an AWESOME, Modern , Scandinavian inspired and slatted dog house! Oh and I teamed up with my good friends over at Simpson Strong-Tie to ensure that his house was built right, sturdy and would last a long long time! Wanna know how I made it? Well, let’s get started!
I went thru so many different version of what type of bed I wanted… farmhouse, modern, platform… there are so many awesome options out there. But how I came up with this version started with a recent build, my DIY Textured Storage Bench. I love how it came out and currently have it in my bedroom, so I wanted something that would coordinate with that. It has a bubble hammered texture to it and I thought that would look great on the headboard, so I started my design there.
The world is kinda crazy right now and life as we know it has seen some changes… from social distancing to toilet paper shortages to a lot of people getting sick. And those of us who don’t have an essential job (Thank you 1000% to those who do!) we might be going a little stir crazy. So I teamed up with my friends over at Bernzomatic to create a #STAYHOMESCRAPPROJECT with the hopes of inspiring you to use what you got and make something AWESOME.
One of my favorite builds in 2019 was my Bubbly Bar Cabinet. It is not only functional, but it looks super awesome and was my introduction into power carving. Ever since that build I knew I wanted to do more of it, so I teamed up with Saburrtooth Powering Carving Tools to create another AWESOME piece. And this time I knew I wanted to add texture to the whole piece. And what better piece to start with than a bench, a storage bench, because everybody could use a bench and a storage bench is even better! So let me start with showing you how I created the bench.
If you have been following along with me on Instagram you know I have recently been completed making over my patio and when we demo’d the old patio I saved the wood in hopes of repurposing it one day. Well, once the new patio was finished I knew that I wanted to have a dining table out their for dinner parties once the the weather gets a little nicer… so that is what I set out to do.
Spring is in the air, well almost summer here in Arizona. But either way it is a nice time to be outside. So I thought I would build a something that would fit right in on my soon-to-be new patio. Something that would not only look pretty and match the look that I am going for, but something that is functional and entertaining. So I thought a tic-tac-toe game! Everybody loves tic-tac-toe and there aren’t any crazy rules to learn.
It was inspired by a two-tone bench that I had made when I was first starting out. I loved that there are so many different ways you can finish it to fit your space or put your personality stamp on it. But did think it would be fun to add a little bit of an upgrade… or in this case a back rest. And not just a straight up and down back rest, but one that was tapered and would actually make the bench comfortable to be sat at.

When my clients said okay to the price I had given her for the Murphy beds I kinda freaked out a little. Even though I had created plans and went thru the whole build process on paper and my head a couple hundred times I was still nervous I was forgetting something! But in the end I made some pretty awesome Murphy beds and learned a ton. Let me share with you what I learned.
Once I built my Modular Miter Station I knew I couldn’t stop there with my shop projects because I still had two major tools that didn’t have a home…. my Kreg Foreman and my Ridgid thickness planer. Both are pretty big tools and are a pain to have to move to a workbench when you need to use them so I came up with a plan to give them a permanent home and fit right in with my new shop furniture….. or Modular Miter Station. So this is de facto Phase 5!
