But since these chairs are made with pressure treated wood we are going to go straight to the penetrating oil. We don’t want to burn pressure treated wood and release any of the chemicals in it.
I like penetrating oil because it soaks into the wood and will never peel or crack… which makes maintenance down the road super easy.
And what really makes this such an easy and super sturdy project is that I am using Simpson Strong-Tie APRTR Ridge Tie Rail Connectors. These are the same ones I used to make my DIY Privacy Fence.
You can get them in the traditional galvanized finish or a decorative powder coated black finish like I did.
Pools are really AWESOME to have in Arizona. But the pool equipment, while it is necessary for a clean pool, it isn’t the prettiest thing to look at. So I decided to hide mine with a DIY Modern Privacy Fence. This fence not only hides the ugly pool equipment, but it also adds some fun character to my backyard. Let me show you how I made it.
I couldn’t put the old ugly numbers on my freshly painted house so I decided to get some new ones. These are the ones I used…. Modern Black House Numbers QT Home Decor. But when they arrived I couldn’t find a spot in the wood part of my house that I liked them, so I decided I would build a backer to put the numbers on so that I wouldn’t have to drill a ton of holes in my block wall.

It is not only going to look AWESOME and give you an elevated place to keep your drinks cold and hidden, but it also has a cutting board! You know for those snacks or to cut up some limes for your favorite summer beverage. So let’s get started building!
It’s that time of year again where I start thinking of all outdoors projects! You see spring is my favorite time of year and I like to spend as much time outside, so having that right bench to hang out on is very important. The bench not only has to look good, but be comfortable and durable to with stand the AZ sun and monsoon season. Well, I teamed up with my friends over at Simpson Strong-Tie and I think I came up with the perfect bench that is easy on the eyes, easy to build, comfortable and is gonna last a long time no matter where you live.
So we started with Simpson Strong-Tie’s Deck Planner Software. It is a free program available to everyone on their website. You create a log-in and then start designing and it is super easy to use. It prompts you for the shape, size, if its going to be freestanding or not, type of material you are going to use, style of railing, do you want/need stairs etc.
When a client came to me and asked if I could help build her some privacy screens I knew this would be a great opportunity to partner with my friends at Simpson Strong-Tie and showcase how easy it is to build a fence frame using some of their brackets.
I recently teamed up with Bernzomatic to be part of their “Torch Bearer” program…. what does that mean you might ask. Well, it means that over the next year I will be bringing you several projects that include some sort of torched element. I am so excited to get to add this element to my making… just another way to bring you more AWESOME DIY projects!
I’ve teamed up with a group of other blogger for another challenge this month. This time the theme is DIY Outdoor…. so of course I wanted to make something else for my soon-to-be new patio!!! This time I choose a DIY Outdoor Cooler Deck Box. Within the last year I had to retire my first build ever, see it here…. so I needed some place for hidden storage. Someplace to maybe hide a cooler? or some pillows? or charcoal? However I end up using it most all I know is that it has to look cute.
Spring is in the air, well almost summer here in Arizona. But either way it is a nice time to be outside. So I thought I would build a something that would fit right in on my soon-to-be new patio. Something that would not only look pretty and match the look that I am going for, but something that is functional and entertaining. So I thought a tic-tac-toe game! Everybody loves tic-tac-toe and there aren’t any crazy rules to learn.
Every time you make a piece you always end up with scraps! And I hate throwing away scraps. So I am always looking at ways to utilize them in some way. Recently I built some DIY Modern Deck Chairs that I absolutely love! And while building them I had to cut this cool angle on the side pieces and was left with some triangles. I knew when I started the DIY Modern Deck Chairs that I wanted to build a side table to go with them to set your drinks and whatever on, but didn't have a plan until I saw these scraps!!!
It seems like everybody is always focused on decorating the interior of their homes, but what about the backyard? Here in AZ we spend a lot of time in ours, maybe not this time of the year, and well why shouldn't it look AWESOME too? So when my friends at Kreg asked me to partner on a project for BuildSomething.com, I was excited to design and build a piece that would give life to our backyard. Plus add some much needed seating! We currently only have some of those plastic adirondack chairs that have seen one to many summers in AZ, if you know what I mean.
