Simple and AWESOME Textured Shelf

Once I found a design I liked I went ahead and laid out a rough sketch of it on the board. The board is made up of glued up pieces of about 2” wide boards, so I decided to use those seams as a natural break in my design. And for the holes I was going to use three (3) different sized forstner bits (1 3/8”, 1” and 1/2”). So as I decided where I wanted them I put a B = Big, M = Medium, and S = Small. That way I would be confused once I got to the cutting process.

How To Decorate An Odd Corner Space

So I have a very odd shaped living room… long and narrow with two openings and a big picture window. It has been a challenge to figure out how to arrange the furniture in the space, especially because my husband will not give up his giant speakers and giant tv! But I have settled on a layout that works for us and have lots of plans to completely makeover the space. I want all sorts of built-ins to hide speakers and get stuff up off the floor so it is easier to clean up all of Oscar’s hair and dirt. But until the time comes to do all that I wanted to something that would spice up the room, its totally boring right now, and give me something pretty to look at. Plus, I have been acquiring lots of plants lately in hopes of becoming a “crazy plant lady” , so I decided to makeover this odd corner space because it gets good light for my plants.

DIY Over-The-Toilet Shelf

Living in a 1971 ranch house means we have small bathrooms. Bathrooms that lack storage! So when my friends at Kreg asked me to partner on a project for BuildSomething.com, I was excited to design and build a piece that would help us with our storage problem. Since we are limited on space I decided adding a shelf over-the-toilet would be the best bet. I wanted a piece that would have space to add some personality to the bathroom, but also functional to hide some everyday essentials. What I came up with was super easy build and it only took two (2) 1x6's and some scrap 1/4" plywood to create! I am on a Knotty Alder kick lately so I actually milled some scrap Knotty Alder down to the same size as 1x6's to make mine out of.
